We want to provide a brief update on the recent tariff related developments.
Earlier this week, the Trump administration announced that the U.S. would reduce tariffs on Indian goods. While this has not yet been formally codified, unofficial guidance suggests tariffs may be reduced from 50% to approximately 18%. Both U.S. and Indian officials have referenced the trade agreement publicly, which is encouraging. However, given that recent presidential statements regarding increased tariffs on other foreign countries did not materialize, we believe it is prudent to remain cautious until formal details are released.
Assuming the reduction proceeds as reported, the immediate question is timing. Previously, tariffs were applied based on the sail date from India. At this point, it is unclear whether the tariff reduction will follow the same methodology, as official guidance has not yet been published. We are hopeful the reduction will be applied based on entry date rather than sail date. Current expectations are that formal notice of the tariff reduction will be published by the end of next week.
We will continue to monitor developments closely and will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
