Rantec Guar Report

The guar gum market remains relatively unchanged since our last report. Traders are moderately active, while manufacturers continue to purchase product to meet immediate demand. The market is looking for direction as participants closely monitor the progress of the monsoon.

The monsoon begins at the southern tip of India and advances northward, typically reaching the guar-growing region by late June or early July (see the below monsoon progress map). This year, the monsoon’s advance is approximately ten days behind schedule. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is forecasting a normal progression into the northwest over the next seven days, reaching the southern and eastern guar-growing regions. Western Rajasthan, the primary guar-producing region, is expected to receive only scattered rainfall in the coming days.

Planting has commenced and will continue through July and into early August.

Regarding tariffs, guar remains subject to a 10% tariff; however, this rate is scheduled to expire on July 24. It is expected to be replaced by a tariff of 10%–12.5% related to forced labor measures affecting imports from both India and Pakistan.

We will continue to monitor developments as conditions evolve.
