PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

R-Tack™ is a tackifier that is manufactured from psyllium or plantago husk powder. Plantago husk powder contains a naturally evolved mucilloid that is an effective adhesive when applied as a slurry with fiber or paper mulch or as an overspray to bond straw fiber. Every manufactured lot of R-Tack™ is tested by Rantec Corporation to meet a minimum specific adhesive strength, guaranteeing a consistent quality plantago product.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

The following are general guidelines only. Consult your distributor for specific site related recommendations.

GENERAL USEAGE RATES PER ACRE

Straw Over Spray Fiber Mulch
Mulch, lb/acre 200 2000
R-Tack™, lb/acre 150 100
Water, gal/acre 700-1500 3000-4000

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Fill the tank so the lower agitator blades are covered with water.
  2. Add the required amount of R-Tack™ while operating the agitator at high speed.
  3. Add water while adding mulch, fertilizer, and seed.
Specifications Minimum Value Allowed
Specific Adhesive Strength (SAS) 500

*SAS value measured by producing a 4 inch diameter by ¼ inch test pad from standard virgin wood fiber source. The SAS value is the amount of force in grams required to produce tensile failure in the pad sample divided by dry pad weight.

PACKAGING

R-Tack™ is packaged in 50 lb polywoven/polylined bags, 40 bags per pallet with stretch-wrapped cover and pallet liner.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Product Basics

R-TACK is a plantago-based mulch tackifier manufactured from psyllium (plantago) husk powder. The natural mucilloid in plantago husk creates strong adhesive properties when applied as a slurry with fiber mulch, paper mulch, or as a straw overspray for erosion control and revegetation projects.

Every lot of R-TACK is tested by Rantec Corporation to meet a minimum Specific Adhesive Strength (SAS) of 500, ensuring consistent quality and bonding strength. This performance guarantee provides reliable adhesion for hydromulching, hydroseeding, and erosion control applications.

Specific Adhesive Strength (SAS) is a measurement of the force required to produce tensile failure in a standardized test pad divided by the dry pad weight. R-TACK’s minimum SAS requirement of 500 ensures superior bonding performance and consistent tackifier quality.

R-TACK is used for:

  • Hydromulching and hydroseeding tackifier applications

  • Straw overspray bonding

  • Fiber and paper mulch adhesion

  • Erosion control and soil stabilization
Its natural plant-derived polymers help bind mulch and straw to the soil surface, reducing erosion and improving vegetation establishment.

Yes. R-TACK is made from plantago/psyllium husk powder, a natural and biodegradable material. It contains no synthetic polymers, making it environmentally safe for use on construction sites, slopes, and revegetation projects.

Applications & Mixing

Recommended application rates vary depending on whether you are applying straw overspray or fiber mulch:

Application Type Mulch (lb/ac) R-TACK (lb/ac) Water (gal/ac)
Straw Overspray 200 150 700–1500
Fiber Mulch 2000 100 3000–4000

These rates help ensure proper bonding, soil protection, and consistent performance across varying site conditions.

  1. Fill the tank until water covers the lower agitator blades.

  2. While running the agitator at high speed, slowly add the required amount of R-TACK.

  3. Continue adding water and incorporate mulch, seed, fertilizer, and other hydraulic materials.
This mixing process ensures the plantago polymers hydrate fully for maximum adhesive strength.

R-TACK is compatible with most hydroseeding and hydromulching equipment. Its plant-based polymers disperse readily when mixed under high-speed agitation, providing smooth pumping and consistent slurry performance.
