PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

XL™ is a liquid crosslinking additive to improve functional longevity of guar gum and mulch matrices.

TYPICAL PROPERTIES

  • Appearance Light to Dark Liquid
  • Bulk Density 1.2 g/cc
  • Ionic Character Nonionic
  • pH 3.3 +/- 0.5

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

XL™ is an insolubilizing additive for guar gum solutions. XL™ can be used to increase solution viscosity and/or to decrease the solubility of the guar polymer once cured. Specific conditions may exist for erosion control that requires long term matrix stabilization.

XL™ is used to insolubilize the guar polymer, thus increasing the longevity of its adhesion qualities. Once cured, the guar gum-based tackifier will resist re-wetting for an extended period of time.

PREPARATION

For erosion control the liquid XL™ is added to the water prior to the guar gum tackifier.

It is recommended that XL™ be added at 40% of the guar, e.g. for a 40% rate, 20 lbs of XL™ is added per 50 lbs of guar.

STORAGE and HANDLING

XL™ should be stored in a dry, cool warehouse protected from damage to packaging.

PACKAGING

XL™ is packaged in 1 gallon (10lbs per gallon) plastic containers, 4 gallons per case.

Call Rantec for alternative packaging.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Product Basics

XL™ is a liquid crosslinking additive designed to enhance the performance and longevity of guar gum tackifiers and bonded fiber matrix systems used in erosion control applications. It improves matrix strength, increases viscosity, and boosts long-term soil stabilization.

XL™ works by insolubilizing guar gum polymers, creating a stronger, longer-lasting bond within the mulch matrix. Once cured, the guar-based tackifier becomes more resistant to re-wetting, providing extended adhesion, durability, and matrix stability on slopes and disturbed soils.

  • Appearance: Light to dark liquid

  • Bulk Density: 1.2 g/cc

  • Ionic Character: Nonionic

  • pH: 3.3 ± 0.5
These properties make XL™ ideal for blending with guar solutions used in hydroseeding and hydromulching.

Use XL™ when a project requires:

  • Long-term bonded fiber matrix performance

  • Enhanced tackifier strength

  • Improved mulch adhesion

  • Increased guar gum viscosity

  • Resistance to re-wetting after rainfall
It is especially beneficial for high-slope, high-erosion-risk, or long-duration stabilization needs.

XL™ should be stored in a cool, dry warehouse to protect packaging and prevent product degradation. Keep containers sealed when not in use.

Applications & Mixing

For erosion control applications, XL™ should be added to the water first, before introducing any guar gum tackifier. This ensures proper crosslinking and optimal polymer performance.

A common mixing guideline is to apply XL™ at 40% of the guar gum rate.
Example: For every 50 lbs of guar gum, add 20 lbs of XL™ to the slurry.
Application rates may be adjusted depending on slope conditions, soil type, and desired matrix strength.

Yes. One of its primary functions is to decrease solubility of cured guar gum, allowing the matrix to maintain structural integrity even after repeated wetting events.
